This café is an extension of the permaculture and natural farming practiced at Solitude Farm. It is inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka who said that "a society that doesn't know where its food comes from is a society without culture". The focus in our café is exclusively on local food, mostly grown on the farm. There is a daily Thali with smoothies, salads, vegan ice creams and a range of hot and cold drinks. We use local grains, dhals, vegetables, fruits and prepare our own flours with millets, corn, plantain and tapioca. All our dishes are vegan, gluten and sugar free.
We are living proof that it is possible to eat delicious local food every day – food that is without an ecological cost as there are zero food miles involved. The dishes take many ideas from Ayurveda and local traditional knowledge, resulting in wonderful health benefits.
The café is located five minutes from the Visitors’ Centre and is open 9.00am – 3.30pm. It is also a venue for concerts and educational workshops aimed at bringing people together over fresh Localicious food.
